Why do you love/hate Snowboarding?
I love and I hate Snowboarding - there are good moments as well as bad moments.
I have been snowboarding since 1993, professionally since 2003. Over the years I have met tons of nice people, seen crazy nice places all over the world. I have had the chance to shred amazing mountains. There is a bad side though. You spend a lot of time in airports. You have to go snowboarding in every condition. There are lots of painful moments. It's a job and it's a business, and if you aren't doing well you will feel it - somehow.
How do you keep your passion for Snowboarding alive after all these years? What keeps you coming back each season?
I have thought about this so many times - but you have to see that you are one of the lucky few who get the change to snowboard and make a living out of it. Like a dream turning into reality.
Is filming/shooting a job or fun for you? Why?
It’s definitely a job but you have to find a the fun in it – riding without fun sucks big time.
Do you have a special workout or training during off-season? How does it keep your snowboarding skills in check?
I am doing a lot of sports beside snowboarding, things like motoX, trailbiking for balance, downhill biking, climbing and some weight training as well. I personally like to have a break from my season - to reload my batteries. I think you never lose your snowboarding skills, maybe it takes a couple of days to get the feeling on the board again but all the important things - like tricks - are locked in your head.
How do you deal with big slams? Any mental preparation?
Slams are always painful. If I am getting hurt on a slam, I try to deal with situation the best I can - and then get block the pain out of my head.
Do you feel fear? How do you handle it?
It's good to have a little bit fear - but only a little bit! If you are too much afraid, it will kill your snowboarding. Over the years I learned to handle the fear - somehow it works.
Do you have any ceremony/ritual before you enter a big jump or rail or drop something?
Sometimes when I have to do something big then I am doing the sign of the cross or I psyche myself up with talking positively to myself.
Are you a blue bird shredder only or uphill in all weather conditions?
If you are shooting a movie part, you have to get out in every condition - so a lot of the time I don't have a choice. I personaly like when its bluebird and fresh powder but also when it's stormy, trees and fresh powder. Actually, I like it when there is fresh powder.
How do you close your boots? Tight, loose, open?
I like to have my boots time - so I have a really good heel hold.
Sharp or round edges?
I break the edges on the tip and tail but in between they are sharp.
Last word?
Keep on rocking - and live your dreams!
